now we live in the
between of your last breath here
and your next breath there

Written for a family who lost their husband, dad, friend to cancer today. The road’s been long, filled with hopes of all sorts and prayers of all kinds. And along the way, they were gracious enough to include us all in the storyline—somehow finding a way to walk forward with confidence while speaking honestly about the realities of life, death, and waiting to pass from one to another.

And now, till they meet again, they live in the in-between that they both accepted and anticipated. This dangling moment between watching him take his final exhale here and getting to see him freely breathe again there.

And now we sit with them…in this odd concoction of grief and hope.
